Deepwood Ranger Guild

The Legend

The Deepwood Rangers hail from the dense forests stretching through the Akronian dukedoms of Northall, Forgolone, and Saline.  The Deepwood Rangers keep the King's Law in the woods, train the citizens in hunting and field medicine, keep banditry and crime to a minimum, and hunt down and eradicate any wastlings that make it into the forests.  Additionally, the Rangers are considered a military order, similar to the Wallguard and the Army.  Rangers are also required to serve on Wallduty, but maintain a similar rank during their yearly service.

More than just huntsmen or wandering guards, Deepwood Rangers are master trackers, stealthy scouts, and possess fabled skill with the bow.  Some legends describe Rangers as having super-human strength or the ability to talk with animals.  But the reality is that Rangers train incessantly to be the most able force in the Deepwood.

Although Deepwood Rangers are well versed with a wide variety of weapons, their specialty is the bow and arrow.  Rangers seldom wear armor, but when they do it tends to be light armor - anything else would hinder their movement through the woods.  All Rangers a wear brown full-length coat, usually made out of canvas or leather, which acts in equal parts as camouflage, warmth, rain-coat, blanket, and uniform.

Requirements to be part of the Deepwood Ranger Guild

Master Ranger Randall Dorvil prepares to
fire his bow during the Ragnarok War.
Although woodsmen have been thought of in many different ways throughout the years, in the West, Rangers have always been held in high esteem.  Rumors cast many heroes as Rangers or former-rangers.  There are even rumors that the King - or his mentor, depending on the tale - did a stint in the Ranger Browns.  Regardless, many young men - and more than a few young women - desire to become Rangers to live under the old oaks, elms, and pines that form the Deepwood.

But the life of the Ranger is not easy.  The Deepwood is a vast and wild forest and bringing order to those wilds makes for a hard life.  It is not for everyone, probably not for most.  Unlike a soldier that comes back from patrol to eat at the mess and sleep in the barracks, a Ranger will often spend weeks of his patrol foraging and sleeping under naught but his coat.  Soldiers tend to fight during day, but the forest never sleeps.  Rangers must be ready to depart at any moment day or night to perform their duties.

For those who still desire a life among the Deepwood trees, with only other Rangers for company, contact your local Master Ranger for recruitment qualifications.
